Location: Warwickshire
Application: Pedestrian Bridge Foundations
Foundation System: RADIX Ground Screws
Structure: Two Pedestrian Bridges by Bison Bridges
Services Provided: Ground Screw Supply & Installation by our team.
Our team was appointed to install the ground screw foundations for two new pedestrian bridges in Warwickshire.
The project required a foundation system that could support the bridge structures while minimising disruption to the surrounding rural area. Access across the site was limited, and reducing the amount of excavation formed an important part of the construction approach.
Following a review of the site requirements, RADIX ground screws were selected as the preferred foundation solution.
The Challenge
Traditional concrete foundations would have involved excavation works, spoil removal and additional site traffic.
The project team required a foundation system that could be installed with minimal impact on the surrounding landscape but at the same time, providing the load-bearing capacity required for the bridge structures.
Future flexibility was also a consideration, with the ability to remove or alter the foundations if the site layout changed at a later date.
The Installation
Our team installed the RADIX ground screw foundations directly into the ground without the need for excavation or concrete.
Once installed, the foundations were immediately ready to receive the bridge structures, allowing the project to progress without waiting for concrete curing periods.
The installation process reduced disturbance across the site and avoided the need to remove large volumes of spoil.
The Result
The completed ground screw foundations provided the support required for both pedestrian bridges while keeping ground disturbance to a minimum.
Because the foundations are installed mechanically rather than cast in concrete, they can also be removed in the future if the bridges are relocated or the site requirements change.
Projects such as this demonstrate how ground screw foundations can be used for bridge structures, boardwalks and access routes where excavation is difficult or undesirable.
